Kudos to President Obama for repealing" Don't Ask Don't Tell"!
As one who served in the Navy I am happy to see the repeal of "Don't Ask Don't Tell".
I served with many fine sailors, doctors, nurses and others who were homosexual or bisexual. We didn't talk about it, but often we knew or thought we knew who was or wasn't gay. So what? As long as we could count on them to do their job with integrity is what mattered.
Like any other individual in the military they were there to serve their country and did so very well.
Knowing anothers sexual preference should not interfere with the mission of the military. Of course there will be things to worked out. But just like the admission of women and minorities into the military, this is the next step.
The military has always had homosexuals in its rank and file. This is important to remember. The difference is now acknowledging that. Denial of a fact doesn't change the fact.
Denial of a fact is subversive. It corrodes in ways that are not always apparent.
Lies are corrosive in the same way. This new step which some find potentially hurtful to the military and its members will eventually prove to strengthen the troops.
A dose of truth may hurt at first( isn't telling the truth often scary and hurtful?) but like a dose of antibiotics it may be necessary and end up improving the health status of the receiver and others (protecting the community).
Kudos again, President Obama and all the others who worked so hard to do this!
It's about time.
